About Kalyn

I was very fortunate for the opportunities I had to travel as a kid. My parents enjoyed taking us to different locations for our spring break; Mexico, Turks and Caicos, Cayman Islands, and pops would take us with him on business trips now and then; Las Vegas, and even France! We went to Jamaica for my sister’s wedding and I have participated in mission work in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic. The travel bug was already going wild inside of me before I went to college.

After my freshman year at Ball State, a family friend that moved to the Netherland for his job told to me how easy it is to travel Europe and that I could use their place as a “home base” if I ever wanted to travel. I used all of sophomore year planning a six-week trip for the following summer. I got a job at Olive Garden and saved all of my tips. Then I begged my friends to go with me until one of my dear friends committed to going on the first half of the trip! We had the time of our lives exploring places we had only dreamed about. I mapped out a 10 country itinerary over the course of 6 weeks and it was a trip of a lifetime!

The summer before my senior year was the most formative in regards to my passion for travel. I needed an internship for my event management degree and quite a few more credits for my travel and tourism minor. At the beginning of the summer, I decided to take a three-week field study in Central Europe with a small group of students and two of my T&T professors. At the end of the trip I did not fly back to the states but instead went to my internship in the Netherlands! An opportunity came up for me to work on the European Sales Meeting team for our family friend’s company in the Netherlands. I spent most of the summer prepping with the team in Dordrecht and then at the end of the summer, we ran the behind the scenes and day of events in Rome at the sales meeting. Both opportunities changed me forever!

Life hit after graduation and traveling was on the back burner. My first job out of college is where I met Pat. We fell in love fast and within 2 years we were saying our vows in our perfect backyard wedding. During our first year of marriage I was running an event and conference center and Pat was a doing product support at a speaker company. We were both drained and equally unhappy in our work life. We decided to apply for a 15 month program where we would work at an AFRC (Armed Forces Recreation Center) in Germany. We had the job within a week and were set to fly out three months later. After lots of paperwork, downsizing, and moving, we were so ready for our first huge adventure together. 15 months turned into 21 months and we were fortunate to travel to so many amazing places in Europe throughout that time.

2020 brought us back to the states where we found a job working as a management team for a retirement community out in Massachusetts. During our first year with our company we bought a van and converted it into a livable space and transitioned to travel managers within our company. This allows us to fill in at communities across the nation, manage our own schedule, and it has given me time to work towards my goal of being and travel consultant and itinerary designer!
